LEED ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATION

Every choice at Supergres is guided not only by aesthetic performance but also by respect for the environment and the commitment to reduce environmental impact, preserving the beauty of our planet for future generations.For this reason, the company continues to invest significant sums annually to improve the energy performance of its plants and the efficiency of the value chain, seeking the best partners for the supply of raw materials, semi-finished products, machinery, etc.

WHAT DOES IT CERTIFY?

Ceramiche Supergres, always very sensitive to the issues of sustainable construction, produces products that contribute to achieving LEED scores (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), the multi-parameter system born in the United States to evaluate the eco-sustainability of buildings throughout their life cycle.To be LEED certified, a building must achieve at least 40 credits out of 110 available. Every material used in the project contributes to the overall score.The system is based on awarding credits for each of the nine requirements that characterize the sustainability of the building: from water recovery to energy saving, from the use of building materials made from recycled materials to space comfort.

HOW DO OUR PRODUCTS CONTRIBUTE?

Our products at Ceramiche Supergres contribute to earning credits in the following three requirements:

  • Sustainable Sites = 2 Points. These requirements involve reducing heat islands, which refers to the temperature difference between urban and rural areas, to minimize the impact on the microclimate and habitat. The criterion measures two material characteristics: solar reflectance and thermal emittance. All light-colored tiles in the Supergres range used in outdoor spaces contribute to reducing the heat island effect due to their high solar reflectance index (SRI) values;
  • Materials and Resources = up to 5 Points. This requirement involves the commitment to using products and materials with low environmental, economic, and social impact. It includes minimizing the extraction or manufacture of virgin materials, reducing transportation impact, transparency of information throughout the lifecycle, and minimizing the use and generation of harmful substances. Ceramiche Supergres meets this requirement by providing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for the entire range, transparency regarding the origin and extraction of materials, and commitment to environmentally-responsible quarrying. Points can also be earned based on the amount of recycled waste materials contained in the product and compliance with Red List Free requirements, such as not using substances on the REACH list and possessing DECLARE certification;
  • Indoor Environmental Quality = up to 3 points. This involves improving indoor environmental quality, including health, safety, comfort, energy consumption, air exchange efficiency, and air contamination control. For flooring, it concerns the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air. Since our tiles are fired at temperatures exceeding 1200°C, they eliminate any organic compounds, making them non-emissive sources and always compliant with the requirement.

Ceramiche Supergres' commitment to sustainable construction translates into products that not only meet the highest environmental standards but also actively contribute to improving the quality of buildings and living and working spaces.
