Supergres porcelain stoneware is a compact and hard material with practically no measurable water absorption (porosity). The main feature of porcelain stoneware tiles is their composition. They are made up of 99% of the purest raw materials (clay, kaolin, minerals and feldspars), while colours from natural sources complete the aesthetic effect. No glues or resins are added to compact the tiles. The material is made homogeneous and compact by mechanical pressing at a ratio of over 500 kg per cm² and is then fired in kilns over 90 metres long, at a temperature above 1,250° and at variable times.

Supergres porcelain stoneware has excellent technical performances that make it suitable for use in different settings: from residential to commercial and large public spaces.

Due to the surface treatment (e.g. Purity of Marble), some collections can only be used for residential walls and floors, or however surfaces that do not require particular anti-slip performances.

It is therefore necessary to check the nature of the collection depending on where the product is to be used.

The natural finish is when the tile undergoes no further processing after firing. This is the most versatile and easy to clean finish, suitable for any environment.

The lapped or polished finish increases the shine and elegance of the tile, enhancing its aesthetic value. This type of finish is recommended for residential environments where no particular anti-slip performance is required.

The structured finish gives the material a three-dimensional surface, which solves the problem of slipperiness in the presence of water or particular environmental conditions. This is particularly suitable for outdoor use.

The “LUX” surface finish is a new lapping technique by Ceramiche Supergres. It is characterised by a fully lapped surface that enhances the graphic details. The small speckles, discontinuous effects and slight waves on the surface of the product are intentional and created to faithfully reproduce the actual aspect of polished stone and marble, giving the product an even more natural look. The LUX finish is suitable for residential floors and in environments where no particular anti-slip performance is required. Due to these features, the LUX finish is only recommended for use indoors and not in direct contact with the outdoors, so as to maintain the shine of the finish.

Porcelain stoneware used as a bathroom wall covering makes it possible to achieve beautiful aesthetic results. It allows having floor and wall tiles made from the same product, and using wood-inspired products or large format slabs. Compared to white-body wall tiles, porcelain stoneware is more difficult to cut and drill, making it more difficult to install shower cubicles, furniture and accessories, which are always numerous in the bathroom.

White-body is the technological solution used to cover interior walls. Its main feature is that it allows to obtain surfaces with special aesthetic effects of shine and softness, effects that would be impossible to achieve with porcelain stoneware tiles.

White-body ceramics are hygienic, healthy, stain proof, versatile, resistant to UV rays, fireproof and do not absorb odours. Moreover, white-body tiles allow for more pronounced three-dimensional effects. They are easier to work than porcelain stoneware, they are easier to cut and drill and make it easier to install shower enclosures, furniture and accessories in bathrooms.

Ceramic is a product that owes its exceptional resistance to firing at very high temperatures. This process can lead to slight differences in colour shades and the actual size of the tiles between one production batch and the next. For this reason, the tiles are grouped by tone (colour shade) and calibre (actual size) in the pre-packaging stage. This data is reported on the labels of all Supergres packs.

For rectified tiles, the width of the gap can vary depending on the size of the tiles and the intended use of the floor. Laying with a closed joint is not recommended, while a joint width of at least 2 mm is recommended. This type of laying allows for greater grip of the grout on the sides of the tiles and greater absorption of any movements in the substrate. For non-rectified tiles, the minimum recommended joint is 5 mm.

In large areas, the expansion joints must be laid regularly, while in small rooms it is sufficient to leave a slight gap between the tiles and the perimeter walls. This gap will then be covered by the skirting board, giving it a finished look.

For greater aesthetic value, we suggest using grout in the same colour as the tile to reduce contrast and give continuity to the floor, without interruptions.
Supergres is always available to recommend the most appropriate grout for each product, providing the codes of the grouting products according to the ceramic material to be laid.

To calculate the number of tiles needed for the project you need to know the size of the surface to be paved or tiled and choose the laying pattern to be used. In view of this, Supergres recommends ordering at least 10-15% more tiles than the surface area to be tiled. It is important to make sure you order enough tiles from the same batch for your project, since subsequent batches may vary slightly.

Some Supergres collections are characterised by colour variations between one tile and another (shading). This particular characteristic can be enhanced by taking tiles from several boxes in order to obtain the best possible blend of shades.

This is a misconception. Large tiles create fewer joints, so they give surfaces a continuity that enlarges spaces and volumes. The aesthetic effect is further enhanced if floors and walls are grouted with a matching grout.

After receiving the material, check that the goods delivered correspond to the delivery documents, and in any case before laying, it is important to carefully check that the tone, calibre and grade of material match your order.

To obtain the best possible aesthetic result, lay the material by using tiles from different boxes, so as to obtain an optimal mix.

For products with vein markings, as with natural stone effect tiles, we recommend arranging the vein markings of the slabs in such a way as to obtain the best aesthetic and chromatic effect.

We recommend that the tiles are glued to the substrate using specific, high-performance adhesives. Please remember that the substrate must be stable, dry and properly prepared for laying.

When laying the material, do not make marks on the surface with pencils (graphite) or permanent markers, especially on polished products.

Regarding the laying of porcelain stoneware tiles:

In the period after the surfaces have been tiled until they are handed over to the end customer, the ceramic tiles must be kept clean and free of cement, sand, mortar and any other material that may cause stains and/or mechanical abrasion on the surface. The finished surfaces must be protected from potential damage or contamination caused by the foreseeable presence of other operators such as painters, electricians, carpenters, etc.

For continuous surfaces we recommend laying the tiles in a staggered fashion with a distance between the edges of no more than 20 cm. For rectified materials, the minimum grout joint required is 2 mm (this type of installation allows the grout to have better grip on the sides of the tiles and to absorb any movements in the substrate). A joint of at least 5 mm is required for non-rectified tiles.

To lay tiles that have a side length of at least 60 cm (and even longer if they are rectified), it is recommended to use a levelling system. These systems consist of plastic products (knob-shaped or wedge-shaped) that help the installer to glue the tiles precisely, avoiding differences in level (“small teeth”) between one tile and another.

T_20 is the perfect solution to pave the outdoor areas in residential and commercial applications such as gardens, walkways, terraces and pool decks. Its excellent technical and aesthetic features allow T_20 to decorate outdoor spaces and maintain its characteristics unaltered over time. The choice of non-slip materials allows you to enjoy the outdoors spaces in complete safety.

According to the different needs and uses, T_20 outdoor floors can be laid in different ways: raised installation on polypropylene supports, dry installation on gravel and grass, or traditional installation with glue.

After installation, it is crucial to properly clean the tiles. Inadequate or late removal of the residues of the grout used for the joints can leave marks or stains that are difficult to remove and create a cement film on the floor capable of absorbing any form of dirt.

To clean the tiles everyday, we recommend using a neutral detergent.
Do not use widely available detergents containing waxes and polishing additives that can deposit an undesired film on the floor. We advise against the use of waxes, greasy soaps, fillers and various treatments (water and oil repellent) on the Supergres product, as they are not necessary. If the above treatments have been applied, they will firstly need to be removed from the floor using specific products following the manufacturer’s instructions.

In case of particular and/or particularly stubborn stains, we recommend using specific detergents, such as those indicated in Table 1: “Cleaning products”.
Also remember that it is easier to remove any type of stain when the stain is still fresh. Make sure to test the detergents on a small area before applying to the entire surface, particularly in the case of porcelain stoneware with a lapped or polished finish.
